I have been quoted £250+VAT for a property worth £195K.

i work in a solciitors all depends how much you are selling for and wheter leasehold or freehold. also if you have a mortgage to redeem? the price you have been quoted seems reasonable to me. check they dont add anything on for redeeming your mortgage etc

I paid about that for buying a new property and selling the old one at the same time, so if you are doing both it sounds about right to me.

Thank you. I'm selling for 138k and will use proceeds to pay off mortgage. I'm not buying another property.

    Is it still reasonable??

    seems cheap to me!

fees in london have been £500 + but you have all the add ons. I expect to pay£1k for buying and £500-£700 for selling.

Mine are on the isle of wight and i pay a bit extra as they are extremely efficient and i don't have to go through a lot of the rigmarole as im a regular customer.

Might have to start looking eleswhere tho by the looks of it!

We are selling also, and what you have been quoted sounds about right. The thing to bear in mind is that 'you only get what you pay for'. This certainly applies to conveyancing. Solicitors do quite a lot of leg work on a house sale, and it's the time that this takes that is often the issue. If you pay little, odds on you'll be one of hundreds and end up waiting for ages to get things concluded. Communication is also an issue, cheaper firms tend to have a lot less staff, and rarely make time to keep you 'in the loop' or even answer your questions.

IMHO it's worth paying for a good and efficient service......peace of mind in a house sale is worth it's weight in gold ;)

    Good luck with this !!!
