New kitchen installation

Hello,
I'm buying a new property and need to rip out the old kitchen and replace with a new one (but keeping sink in same place). I also need someone to lay down new tiles. It's a U-shaped kitchen measuring 2.3m x 2.7m (i.e. small). I asked around and B&Q incredibly wants £8000+ for installation. I think Ikea would charge £2000 based on what people have said. I've tried calling builders but they are really bad at calling back... Can anyone give any guidance over how much this should cost?
Also, what about laying down a solid wood floor for the livingroom (measuring 5m x 3m)?
Thanks!

We did ours last year, about 4m x 3m for around £5k. This included knocking down a wall, ripping everything out, walls back to bare brick, taking the ceiling down, new wiring, boarding, skimming, new plumbing, new IKEA kitchen, new Siemens oven/hob/extractor, worktops, levelling the floor, tiling, paiting, finishing. People were quoting us £15k+ so I did it myself with the help of a plasterer for a few days. Took me about 3 months though!
Kitchens are a rip off, especially if you just want something simple. They are just chipboard carcasses with doors on. B&Q and others must make a killing on them. If you can't do it yourself, get an IKEA kitchen and find someone reputable to fit it. I think you could do it easily for well under £5k and IKEA kitchens are very good quality for the money. I'd avoid the IKEA worktops though - they are a bit crappy.0 -
Would that £5000 include the kitchen itself? Think the one I want (assuming 8 units) is around £2500...
If anyone can recommend a good builder in London please let me know!0 -
IKEA will fit it for around £1200 I think (and do 0% finance too), but they just outsource the fitting to local companies so you never know your luck. Better to buy the kitchen separately and get a fitter that you trust. Can you ask neighbours/friends for recommendations?
(Oh, and use the planning service in IKEA. I found them really good - go late on a Friday night while there is nobody there so you get lots of time with them 1 to 1. I was expecting our units to be about £3k and when she added everything up it was only £1100!)0 -
best thing to do is phone a chippie and get quotes to fit it and buy kitchen from ikea or b and q0

B and Q are overpriced on their installation costs and the Ikea quote of £2k will not have any extras in it which will push it up quite a lot.
Look around and find a local kitchen fitter and see what kitchen they offer. Or try a local showroom though living in London this could be quite costly0 -
I am in the middle of getting quotes for my kitchen. My kitchen is 3.5m x 4.2M.
Homebase quoted £4000 for kitchen and £3800 installation.
Local supplier/fitter 1 = Howdens kitchen £5400 plus local fitter to fit for £1500.
The howdens kitchen is a better quality than the Homebase. My local fitters all said that they would fit any kitchen for between £1200 and £1500.
I am still awaiting another quote then I will make my decision.
The above costs do not include Electrician ( I have a mate who is an electrician so will do the work for next to nothing ) or tiling. It does not include applicances either as I have ones that are fairly new.
I used check-a-trade to find the local suppliers/fitters.I am only trying to help :rolleyes:0
