Agree with Kynthia - I'd much rather be further out, especially with a family. Only a 5 min walk from Fenchurch St to Tower Hill. Some schools in and around Southend are excellent.

Kynthia and Hazyjo - what areas would you suggest when you say further out?

Shenfield (both would commute though), or Leigh-on-Sea.

Shenfield trains go into Liverpool Street - some fast trains straight to Liv St, or with one stop at Stratford. On the Southend line, so easy for both. Good schools nearby. Area has a very good reputation. (Couple of nice restaurants there too!)

Leigh-on-Sea has been described as being like Blackheath. Some nice shops, restaurants, etc - and the seaside on your doorstep. Lots of amenities nearby, great schools, etc. Bit of a property hotspot, I'd say - watch this space - I see it taking off big in the future time price-wise (don't hold me to that lol!). Very expensive right now, will probably just become more and more desirable.

Yeah its both commuting that is the problem - don't like the idea of both of us having to commute iwth the little one on her own!!! IN that respect Leigh on Sea seems more sensible. What are your thoughts on Benfleet/Hadleigh/Rayleigh?

Don't know much about Benfleet or Hadleigh, but Rayleigh's nice. My aunt's always lived there (and my ex lives there which is reason enough for me to avoid it!). Quite leafy, nice reputation, suburban, safe... depends what you're looking for. No idea on schools there. Think I would still prefer the attraction of Leigh cos of the seaside/holiday/cosmopolitan/upmarket feel about the place.

I'm in Brentwood so not mega-local, but in the general direction.

Will send you an email - but you might want to remove yours from here in case some Spam thingies find it and bombard you!

I have always lived in cranham/ upminster, depending on the age of your child(ren) you might want to look at cachment areas for school in detail, as just because you live in upminster you still may find it difficult to get them in certain schools (especially coopers/hall mead), there are no areas to avoid in either locations but obviously ther more you pay the nicer house/ road you get.

Another good point is that the rail links are very good here, but I'm sure you already know that! Best of luck

I still recommend Upminster as I grew up there and love it. However it's expensive and there are other good places to live where you can either get the bus to Upminster or go to a different station.

Brentwood, Shenfield, parts of Hornchurch, Gidea Park are all places I'd look, but then I don't know further out very well.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
