Barclaycard Platinum Simplicity

in Credit cards
Ok, i have taken out a simplicity card from Barclaycard at a rate of 7.9% to replace my Bank of Scotland card after they raised my rate (and credit limit oddly) to an eye watering rate of 21.9%. (i know this is more of a standard rate now but...to hell with that) I do not have a balance outstanding, (have my balance on virgins 0% card) and pay the full amount each month. I did this more out of protest than anything else. However, when i was looking over the Barclaycard's online site, I noticed that it tells me that I can not arrange a balance transfer as there is no promotional offers. Well I know this and given the rate is only 7.9% I hardly expected any "offers", but surely I should be able to transfer funds from a higher rate card should the need ever arise?
Any thoughts?

do you mean transfer debt from a higher rate card, not funds?
Barclays, like any business, can choose how they do business so if that is one of their rules then so be it. You could always draw cash on the Barclays card and pay it in to the other credit card.
Did you perhaps 'protest' in haste without fully reading the Ts & Cs first? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
I got myself a Barclaycard about 4 months ago and transferred a balance from another card as they were offering 0% interest for 16 months. When I got the card I asked for a Direct Debit to be set up for the min payment and they said they would send a form. They didnt send it and the first payment was late, and so they added a late fee. I rang to pay the payment and asked again for a direct debit to be set up, which they said they would do, this time by phone, why couldnt they have done that in the first instance? Then the DD set-up didnt catch the next payment so another payment was late (we can transfer cash in seconds, why does it take 6 weeks to set up a DD?) So I rang again, explained that it was their original error re the DD and request a refund of the late fees, at which point I realise that they have also charged me interest, the 0% apparently is void if even one payment is late. Eventually, they agree to refund the late charges but say they cannot refund the interest until 48 hours has passed, but it will be done then. I rang after the 48 hours and they refuse to refund the interest ( some £200)and say that the interest will apply for the life of the balance transfer which is nearly £3000. I had to do battle to eventually get the interest refunded and the 0% interest re-instated. I have used cards regularly over the years but have never come across such bad management. I am looking to pay off the balance as I feel there will be more errors to come. I will never use Barclaycard again, I feel that the errors are there to trip us up and get us paying interest even though they state interest free.0

And you wonder why Barclaycard as such a good website where you can check you balance...create a direct debit and ensure that it's all set up correctly before the first payment is suppose to come out...0 -
I obtained the card by telephone and so, followed through by making the arrangements by the same method. I wasnt told at that point that I could do it online as I surely would have. Also I had a Barclaycard years ago, and was unable to access online management as for some reason, although I re-registered for this card, the system is confused and wont let me access my account. The errors are all Barclaycards. I have used numerous cards over the years and havent had these problems. Barclaycard was also the first one to dream up the system whereby, they offer an interest free account, customers would transfer a balance, but also use the card for spending. Then any payments they made would be credited to the interest free account, thereby getting people into debt which was virtually impossible to pay off. The system is there to trip people up and its immoral.0
