Looking to repair my credit file

I score a pathetic 422 on my credit file. I have 8 defaults on their. I am now looking at re-building my credit file. Does anyone have any good tips?

I have applied for a secured card from capitalone. This is the first step.

I have about 15 Wonga showing up on my credit file. Is there any way I can get these removed? Despite me paying them all off on time, it's very annoying these will remain on file for 6 years!! I would do anything to get them off as I never want to deal with them again.

Any hints and tips gratefully appreciated.

I am also going to write to 3 creditors which I defaulted with (for between £45 and £150) - but have been paid off in full. I am going to explain why I defaulted and attempt to get these removed.

Ok Danny, fixing your file is not a quick fix, first off please don't rely on experian or equifax. The banks have their own internal system and this means very little to us.

The Wonga I'm afraid its 6 years trust me I have 2 of these and would do anything to shift them now. I'm afraid time is going to be the healer.

Are you doing the usual i.e. on the electoral roll etc, this all helps.

Well done on the card from capital one. spend a little and always repay this is a good start to a fresh file.

I would recommend clearing off the defaults, they do tend to come after you once you have checked your file however don't expect too much with the removal. Unfortunately they have to stay on as an accurate reflection of your credit history.

In short time. Keep the capital one and have small lines of credit.

I've been lucky enough to never default but I have 34 late markers on my file in short nothing will get rid of them but time and in fact I'm celebrating 4 months without a late from my bank for not going over my agreed overdraft limit. It will be a good few years before any looks at me ever again.
  • Reckon me and each creditor could possibly come to some "agreement" that if they remove the default, I will pay the balance in full (mom is willing to help me out). The reason I defaulted in the first place was because my hours got slashed by 15 per week at work. However, I am now earning around £6,000 more per year meaning I am in a much better financial situation now than when I defaulted.

Seems harsh that my work has possibly completely trashed my credit score.
