Perhaps there's some merit in introducing increased price competition in this market, with consumers switching away from gas and electricity producers who have a profit motive for keeping wholesale prices high so their production divisions make money, while the retail side uses high wholesale costs as an excuse for high prices?

    The sheep are lost.

Centrica says up, E.on says not. How can one expect the others to know what they are going to do now?

Its like in The Godfather when the heads of the 5 families get together.

This is different though...there is 6...;)

How naughty that 2 of the families have acted before the heads get together...

I'm going to make a prediction based on the greed of these companies. I foresee that within 9 months all of the utilties(including eon) will have put up their prices even if wholesale costs have gone down. They've done it before and will almost certainly do it again. Also they will trot out that they are still competitive with each other which will probably be true as they act as a cartel to give themelves that excuse.
