Irfanview (free) will do what you want and there are loads of guides online.

    BUT...

In the name of lemon-scented fudge, WHY?

For online use, images should be no more than 72dpi so a full-screen jpeg shouldn't be any more than a few hundred kB.

By using high res images, all you're doing is slowing down page loading times and gobbling up people's download allowances (something you don't want to do if you want customers to access your site from their mobiles, for example).

They wont be that size by the end, we will use image re-seize to reduce the size of the jpeg

Exactly, the OP for some unknown reason cannot comprehend that it it quicker to remove a minor watermark than it is to get a camera, set up the item in question, take a load of photos, take it to a computer, upload to pc, choose the pic, then maybe photo edit and upload to web.

Back to OP, just because you get answer's you don't like, no need to get ugly, nasty and sarcastic. But if that is the person you are, then may be a good idea to stay clear of public forum's.

If as you say they are not nasa missile codes (which they don't have by the way) or bin laden, but some pics you have taken of item's you sell on ebay, then why watermark them with a tiny or subtle mark, which can be easily removed.

I replied in jest, havent you got a sense of humour mate?

I feel you are the one who should steer clear of a public forum, your wasted here, you should be a councillor ;)

Also i think your post about sarcasm should be more directed towards pinkypants.

Why have you also mentioned that im selling my items on ebay, when im not?

Your talents are really wasted here, your not only a councillor for people you havent met, your also a very bad clairvoyant.

Oh and by the way, i have been using forums alot longer than you, and using them very successfully

lol some people really do make me laugh.......go out and have a beer mate.

There are alternative methods that stop the casual thief. I usually place a .png with a transparent background over the top of my product images, so a right click will only offer to download the empty .png instead of the image underneath. I also disable a right-click with javascript. It won't stop a determined thief who can just download the whole site by other means.

Don't upload 4mb images either. Give them much smaller images if they are only viewing them online.

Finally, if you host your own web site, you can use server plugins like aspjpeg to automatically overlay text or other images on top of uploaded images. It depends on where you host, what access you have and what script language your pages use.

Ultimately you can't stop images from being downloaded, but you have legal means to issue a take-down notice if you can show that the images belong to you.

    Thanks alot for this....

I think i will pass this info onto my designer and see if it is something he can do easily.

Sorry not sure where my sarcasm is in this thread, I was asking a serious question as I didn't understand the logic behind your question.

I too, use images online, also I have right clicked, save as, then used them on my own site many a time. I have also got around watermarks at times when need be.

    You have a beer.

Yeah like you replied in jest towards pp.

As to why mentioning ebay, as that is where most pics are nabbed by other people to use for there listings.

Care to say where your B&B is, given how you respond to strangers, sure would hate to have to stay in your place.

I got it from where you tried to hijack another thread about website for a B&B. So people assumed you were also doing for a B&B.

Were you also posting in jest about calling another person an idiot about takeaway food.
