Ebay refund con

Has anyone else bought something from ebay that wasn't as described in the listing and returned it for a refund?

I have just returned an iphone to the seller as they described it as being 'only used once'. When I received it it was very scratched and had a small dent in the casing plus when I used the phone I couldn't hear the person on the other end and they couldn't hear me.

I contacted the seller and ebay and returned the phone but I only received back the cost of the phone plus the original postage cost. What about the £6.35 it cost me to post it back?

Ebay are refusing to refund this cost

I feel I am being penalised for a dishonest seller. Surely ebay should be working with the buyers and building confidence not making us pay for someone elses lies.

Your only recourse is to sue the seller. Not worth it for £6.35

Also if it's a private sale, I'm not sure you are even entitled to a refund on the phone at all. So by enforcing that, eBay are actually doing a very good job.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Yes it is annoying, but I think that the ebay T&Cs say that the buyer pays the return postage.

I bought something a while back and it turned out to be counterfeit. I reported it and the buyer said they would refund if I returned it. ebay said I had to, and I complained a lot (and said perhaps I would just take it to my local police station instead) so ebay paid me the postage back as a "goodwill" payment.

For smaller values i've known eBay to take the hit a number of times. Normally where they class it as non-fault to either party, such as returns going missing in the post (although the buyer can claim from the carrier).

I imagine they paid you the cost of return postage to get rid of you, not because they was worried about you going to the police station. After all it's the seller that you'd be reporting, not eBay.
