walk in bath opinions, please

Due to having a back problem I want to fit a shower in my bathroom but keep the bath. There is room to put a shower enclosure but it means moving the toilet and washbasin and putting in a new waste for the toilet, retiling, buying a shower enclosure and new shower fitting etc, which I assume would be a lot of work and therefore expensive. I can't use the shower which is over the bath as when my back is bad I can't get into the bath to use the shower.

Looking at the options I could change the bath for a walk in bath, the sort with the little door in the bath, they seem to start at around £1700, or there is a very low bath, only 12" high which would be much easier to get into, I never have more that 6" of water and is considerable cheaper. So that would only need the bath changing and some tiling as the shower is already there.

Has anyone got one of these walk in or extra low baths, any advice would be most welcome.

Walk ins are OK provided you are happy to get cold whilst it is filling and even colder whilst it is emptying. Given their cost I would suggest you reconsider the total revamp option in preference. Alternatively if you think a low bath would be OK for you then just go for the swap with the shower over it. That has to be the most MSE approach.

I was only thinking of useing the walk in option to get in when I want a shower and use the bath with out opening the door when I want a bath.
