Time for a boiler service?

Well as I have some spare time on my hands, I'm trying to make sure the house is all good. My boiler hasn't been serviced for 20 years (since I bought the house, in fact) so I'm just wondering, is it a good idea to get it serviced?
I'm caution of the fact that as it is so old and hasn't been serviced for so many years, if it is opened more will get broken than fixed. So should I adopted the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' attitude? The boiler has been running fine for the past 20 odd years.
If I do get it serviced, what type of service do I ask for?
The boiler is a Barlo Balmoral 45F
Thanks

I'm sure you are probably aware that you should have your boiler serviced every year.In not doing so you have been putting yourself (and family if you have one) at great risk, especially a boiler of that era.
Also if it does get serviced its another green mark as it goes for the sale of the hose.0 -
It is really hard to believe that you have only just thought, seriously about having your boiler serviced, after two decades, unbelievable that anyone could be so neglectful, I just hope that you live alone and do not have a family.
I can only assume that when you purchased the dwelling that it may have been just installed, having said that it certainly would not even be a reason for leaving is so long.
Dont put your family at risk any longer and call in a service engineer today.0 -
A 20 year old boiler may not be room sealed - i.e. it may be capable of venting carbon monoxide into the house. That alone would be a reason to get it checked out. A service isn't normally an expensive exercise (we pay around £70 for ours including refilling the water softner) and a lot of older boilers are pretty robust so its not necessarily going to throw up any problems. Often its just a case of cleaning the burners, hoovering out accumulated dust etc and making sure its working properly.Adventure before Dementia!0
