Hi all,
Im a 24 year old male who seperated from a partner last summer, Since then ive spiralled into financial doom, my monthly income is 1330 and my outgoings are approx 1330.
I am NEVER in my house yet im paying a dual fuel bill with npower at £77 a month, with £28 added on to pay off arrears over the next 12 months, so my monthly expense with npower is £105.
As I can't really afford this do i have an option of asking them to install a prepay meter? and would this be a better option for me financially?

I would certainly advise you speak to your supplier sooner rather than later if you are having any troubles paying their bills.
They may give you some advice on reducing consumption or putting you on a more economical tariff. £77 per month consumption for a property you say you are NEVER in is quite high.
BTW, if you really are NEVER in the property, do you need it any more?
You can ask for a PPM to be fitted, but you should realise you may not then get the best tariff for whatever energy you are using. PPMs tariffs are typically around, or just below, a suppliers standard tariff.
But a PPM may be of help to keep your energy consumption under more control, especially in a property you say you are NEVER in.
Edit: I would suggest first that you post your SoA on the DFW (Debt-Free-Wannabe) board, as it is amazing how much spare income the helpers their often manage to conjure up from those seeking advise and often believing they have no spare cash."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
So are you actually using £77 of energy a month? What is your actual kWh usage? Get a handle on your actual consumption (forget £ bills) and then get your DD adjusted to suit.
Of course if you are overpaying, you will be clearing the debt quicker. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I would imagione they would be happy to fit a PPM given the circumstances but it wont necessarily cut your bills -(depending on your tarrif / current payment method it may even increase them).
To cut bills you need to reduce consumption or find a cheaper tarriff (assuming there is no problem with the meter)
You say you are never in but what is running whilst you are out or are there any high consumption items used? (eg are there any immersion heaters left on a lot, any general items left on stanby unneccessarily, are you running a tumble drier, electric heating?)
Your budget may be tight but if your income covers & expenditure that isn't really "financial doom" by the way but as suggested you could post a financial statement on here, contact consumer credit counselling service (also available on here) or visit your local cab, legal advice centre or similar if you would like free & confidential advice on your finances.0
