Getting married in the Lake District - ideas please

Hi there,
We run a property called Knipe Hall in the Lowther Valley about 15 mins from J39 M6 on the eastside of The Lake district, which lets you have a blank canvas as to how formal/informal you would like your ceremony to be. Therefore you are in control of the budget.
Google Knipe Hall and see if it could work for you.:)0 -
My OH and I have been together for 16 years and would like to get married. Neither of us wants a big do with all the fuss and expense that comes with it, but do want the day to be more special than just turning up at the local registry office. We’d also like to give our close family (which is only 9 people on top of the two of us) the opportunity to come along as well.
Any ideas gratefully received!
If you're willing to travel a little bit further, you could think about getting married in Scotland - that way you can get married wherever you want as long as it is "safe and dignified".
You can also have the service carried out by a Humanist if you're not religiously inclined. I've been to a couple of humanist ceremonies and they are wonderfully relaxed and personal weddings.

You could get married up a mountain, on the beach or even rent your own castle and get married there!
This site might give you a few ideas -

Scotland was first on my list and I haven't discounted it. I found a brilliant castle where an owl swoops in with the rings in the service which is very Harry Potteresque and I love this idea! My only issue with this is that my dad had an accident on a motorbike many years ago now but in the last couple of years the pain from it has got a lot worse in his back and neck and might struggle sitting down long enough to get there
. If we picked it I've no doubt they would get there, but the journey might need breaking up a lot.
I've probably overstated the first post a bit when I said we want to get married :rotfl: I want to get married, my OH is happy to be married but doesn't really want to have to go through the ceremony part :rotfl:. This is fine in many ways as I'm not interested in a big flash do, but do want something a bit special and am happy to stay small.
So, at the moment I'm happy to receive any and all ideas and I'll shortlist some and run past the OH to see if he's agreeable to any. It's a bit tricky as I don't want to push it (despite proposing I don't think he ever envisaged having to do the actual wedding bit and we've been together so long now!) and I've also no idea what he might deem 'too expensive' (to be fair I don't want to spend a lot either as I'd rather spend it on the honeymoon or the house).
Thanks for all the ideas so far0 -
Although not strictly speaking in the lakes itself - Here's an idea- in Lancaster (about 25 miles south of the South Lakes) I've seen people getting married in the Ashton Memorial in Williamson park - there's beautiful views across to the lake district there.
I don't think it's too expensive either, and Lancaster's just off the M6 and on the main west coast train line, so easy to get to

Just a thought, Lancaster town hall offer their council chambers, which are just gorgeous. They hold up to about 40 people and it is in a round. It would particularly suit a small autumn/winter wedding as really beautiful old wood etc.May GC - £100 per week

Yeah I think they're a good bet for receptions too- got a couple of friends who've had receptions in there - they were on tight budgets so can't have been expensive.0
