We're thinking of putting a fence up at the front but 1) can't afford 2) it might not deter if it's not big enough.

Just a word of warning here (from someone currently dealing with a planning complaint against them !) - if the fence would be next to a highway (which includes the pavement) you will need planning permission if you want to put up a fence that is over 1m tall.

Firstly... My advice would be to go along and speak to their parents as they might be totally unaware of the dangers that they, the children, are putting themselves into.

Next I would suggest speaking to the Community Officer or Police.

Maybe a friendly visit to their parents will, hopefully, resolve the issue.

    Good luck

Put a bike lock round your gate so they have to either climb back up or ask to be let out.

You could grow some climbing or rambling roses up the wall - some varieties would even grow up across the garage roofs.

Check the reviews for something like 'Filipes Kiftsgate' - climbing through a briar patch would put anyone off. I rather like this review - less of a flower, more of a horticultural weapon!

Smear dog !!!! all over the top of the wall. Then they will think twice.

I am unclear whether OPs issue is an objection to use of their wall to enable the descent or genuine concern for the wellbeing of the children in question.

Nevertheless kids will be kids and surely the question you should ask yourself is did I get into similar situations and scrapes when I was that age and if so then apply an element of perspective.

    Cheers

I don't remember ever flicking a V and telling someone to F off after jumping on their wall when I was 7. Are you saying that this is normal for kids to do?

Thats actually a totally separate issue from what I was talking about - please concentrate. :D This is one thing I certainly would complain to the parents about but in this liberal age in which we are forced to live they probably learned it from their parents in the first place. Sigh!

Which is why I wouldn't even approach the parents. You're asking for problems.

The easiest, non confronational way to sort it is to manipulate the wall in a way that makes it impossible/undesirable to climb.

Now you've lost me. You ask a question of me that really has nothing to do with the post of mine that you quote then when I say so come back to me with something else that still doesn't address the point of my original post. I think one of us needs a beer. :D
