cold calls about guttering on property

Hi,
Has anyone heard of this, I keep getting calls (got another call this morning) about a new government scheme and the 'new law' on replacing my guttering and wooden boards behind the guttering, which will 'allow my roof and attic breath' he said 'otherwise my roof will fall down'. I asked if this was the law, and he stated it was in the 1991 government legisation. He kept saying this morning we know you have wooden guttering on your property and this is a government scheme!
I keep getting calls for free insulation for my attic, which I had three calls last week for alone. I have already had my attic insulted over a year ago.
And, yes I am on the no call list too. Is there a government scheme?

Nest time they ring, tell them to write. If they don't know your address, then hang up.
Or more sophisticated, tell them that you want to record the call, press a single digit on your dialpad and ask them to repeat their company name, phone number and the details of the legislation.
I think what has happened is that you have got yourself on a dialling list for known mugs - justified or not [have you been scammed by phone before]. If you put them at risk, they will probably start to leave you alone.
Remember, nothing good ever comes of a cold call.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Anyone whose sales techniques involve telling you your roof will fall down, doubtless without knowing anything about your property, is obviously legitimate (not!).0

There is currently still a Gov grant at least pre 2010 whereby cavity wall insulation and loft insulation is done free of charge.
Think one person has to be out of work, brilliant for those of us who have to work for nothing.0 -

It is also available at a reduced rate for those who are working. At least it was last summer. I was suspicious when i got a letter so didn't answer. Then someone from the firm doing the contacted me. On the same day I heard an MP talking about it on breakfast television so i did go ahead and have the loft insulation upgraded.0 -
just tell them and conservatory companies and any other company that you live on the 10th floor can they still do the job:T63 mortgage payments to go.

They already know where you live before they phone, the info is sold on.
Careful what you click on, theres nothing for free.0 -
There is no "new law" or a government scheme for gutters and fascias
Just tell these people that you live in a council house.0 -
It is absolute rubbish. We had a phone call to say we had to have our pointing seen to because it was against the law to allow the house to get damp!
If that was true most of the landlords and some owners would be in big trouble.0 -

to a point they know
but if you said you lived in a high rise would they really come round and check?
would they call you a liar on the phone?
could they do anything about it, its just another way of saying I don't want IT!:)
a way round this is to get a cheap answerphone for your landline and either screen calls or put message on that you are screening calls.
mine is set to answer after 2 rings only and rarely does anyone leave a message63 mortgage payments to go.

When I get these 'cold callers' coming to my property I tell them that I will be moving in a few months, but thanks anyways, bye. It has always worked for me, and I'm an old codger in his 70s.
