Car Insurance - which option works?

I had an accident on the 12th June 2007 - which was my renewal date (and my birthday)
My renewal is coming up so i'm shopping around - I have 7 years protected no claim bonus.
If I go to another company does my 7 years transfer to them even though the accident happened in the 5 years. Would I have to declare this accident?
If so is it worth waiting to renew on the 13th June so it would be 5 years plus 1 day.
Thanks in advance

Or go for an insurer that only asks for accidents in the last 3 years
