Flights to Gran Canaria

Hi

Little bit nieve, so please forgive me.

I have been trying to find cheap flights to Gran Canaria in Aug (have appartment to rent already).
The prices seem to vary in price quite a lot (any website info on prices etc appreciated) -
I have been on the Thomson website and found the flight on the day that i require, but on checking the prices, if gives fuel/surrcharges etc (which is fine), then it gives a 'web discount' then it proceeds to 'baggage check in' and the price is an extra £32 per person per bag..... is this right?
Ive always booked hols thru a travel agent and never booked flights only before, so not sure if i need this, or do i just check in my bags as per normal at the airport??

Also, are there any catches i need to be aware of? was also looking at similar flight with Ryanair?

Any advice greatly recieved
Thanks
Karen.

If you travel light and only use hand luggage of 5kg max you will not have to pay £32. If you want to place a bag in the hold you'll have to pay the extra £32. You pay it at the same time as you make the booking.

Other extras to watch out for: allocated seat if you want one, food on board, very expensive coach transfer the other end if you want it and debit and credit card fees.

If you were booking a holiday with Thomson you could be charged up to £95 for using a credit card. This is what they say:

If you use a credit card to make payments online with us, you’ll need to pay a fee of 2.5% which we’ll add at the payment stage. The fee is capped at £95.00 for each transaction you make towards a package holiday or hotel only booking using Visa, MasterCard or American Express. If you’re just booking a flight, there’s a minimum charge of £4.95.

You would be amazed what you can carry about your person to save the baggage fee. You shouldn't need your duffle coat and wellies so some creative 'wearing' and big pockets can save you a fortune.
One word of warning, carrying shoes in your pockets (especially soles upwards) can cause offence if frisked in certain parts of the world.
