Hi, You need to do 3 things:

    1) goto programs, right click on IE, in the pop-up menu click on "pin to task bar" the icon will appear on the task bar.
    2) you need to create/save yr home page(s); goto the control panel, click on Internet Options then, then add the URLs for however many home pages you want, google, btyahoo, and ebay.
3/ Lower down on the same internet options page, click on settings adjacent to "tabs"; in the new pop-up select "when I open new tab" select first home page (hence a good idea if this is google). lower down, select how you want new pages to appear, I prefer pop=ups in a new tab rather than as a new page. Your call

..which you create by hitting [Ctrl]+[D] on your keyboard.

Alternatively, press [Ctrl]+[L] and drag the highlighted URL out of the browser window to create a shortcut.

Aaaah OK off topic slightly , most important things to do
    1) Set up Windows Update and let it check for updates
    2) Create a system recovery CD/USB
    3) Install your Software, Anti Virus and Malwarebytes
    4) Create a full back up
    5) Decide how often you wish to back up going forward
    6) Now save bookmarks etc
    7) Enjoy your new lappie and feel happy that when you get in the brown stuff you can always restore all you need, just come on here for help and say that I have the backups DCM recommended so if needed I don't need to worry about full factory restore etc

Or create a slipstreamed install of Windows with all points up to 4 ;)

Although this is a bit techie/geeky, although not as geeky as I do which is to create a base install , then use VMware and WM Thinapp to create WM's and sandbox'd application to which I can snapshot to (VMWare) and know that nothing can alter my base config (Thinapp). Couple this with Microsofts DPM.

Last resort is a BMR (Bare metal restore) via DPM.
