Mortgage Protect

Hi - new to forum so please bear with me on my errors. Approx 8 years ago we downsized but due to bad credit history (business went wrong) we had troubles obtaining a mortgage - given one by Abbey Nat (now Santander) but were told it was granted with the proviso that we take out mortgage protection and that mortgage was over 10 years due to our age. As you can imagine due to our financial situation this was something we would rather have done with out. So we ended up paying nearly £700 in mortgage payments a month (since gone up another £40) on top of which another £53 a month for the protection to L&G. Is it possible to put in a claim for refund? I am still paying both the mortgage and the mortgage protection. Your assistance would be much appreciated and a point in the right direction as to who to claim from also would be of assistance.

On what basis? You cant just get a refund of premiums because you havent claimed. You need a complaint reason.
lenders used to insist on insurance. That was allowed and indeed still is.
What is this mortgage protection? Is it life assurance, income protection or payment protection? Why do you think you do not need it? No financial need is a good complaint reason but if you have a financial need then typically you are going to struggle on a complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
