Travel with infant to Washington/New York

I'm trying to find a flight/flight + hotel for a short trip from the UK to Washington DC. My little one will be 7 months old so will be fine to travel on my lap but many airlines seem to be charging me full fare for him. I can find flights around £700 but really need to get the cost down to below £500 if at all possible. Outward flight will be 27th June ish, returning 3rd July ish...

You should certainly not be charged the same for a lap infant.
A quick look at the United site shows they charge £563 for the adult and £35 for the infant however there are taxes to pay on top of this and some apply to both the adult and the infant making a total of £800 for the 2 tickets (£698 for the adult and £102 for the infant)

other airlines should be similar...you need to ensure you select infant in lap rather than infant in seat

    Hi,

Just had a look for you no. I have found flights for less than £700 return

    Delta - £604
    Depart: LHR at 10:15
    Arrive: DCA at16:31
    11h 16m
    1 stop (JFK)
    DL LHR 10:15 DCA 16:31

    Depart: DCA at 17:10
    Return: LHR at 07:50
    9h 40m
    1 stop (JFK)

    See www.kayak.com
Direct flights are about £12 more

Edit: Previous poster seems to have found better prices but I cannot find this quote on the United Website?

you beat me, the United fares including taxes are £698 and £102 (although I think with an infant, direct would be my preference)

Delta flights above - £604 adult and £94 infant

Thanks, bizarrely had just called Delta & was told their best price was £884 adult + £100ish infant! I think maybe New York fares will offer better value, do you think Kayk is the best site to use? I ddid sopend a while looking at the other MSE recommended ones but all seemed to charge for a seat, despite me trying to choose different options!

    Hi Emv,

You definitely want to use kayak to compare the the costs of flights. The £604 Delta fare is found on opodo.co.uk. If you do book these flights with Delta then make sure you click through Quidco.com as Opodo.co.uk offer 1.5% cashback on flights (earning you around £10ish)
