Howdens kitchen query

Anyone any idea how much Howdens would charge for the pull out recycle bin, 3 compartments? I'm bidding for one on ebay and want a ballpark figure for a maximum bid

The list price is £136.99 - I happened to have my price list in front of me - but I don't know how much discount they'd give off of that. It might be nothing - for accessories.

    No! Not a bin ... 3 bins :D
    About 60% off - £65.76 ish..

You may be right - but do you actually buy Howdens kitchens Kitchen DesignR? I don't - which is why I don't know what the discount would be, but - in the days when Howdens published an indication of their trade discounts - they used to give the discount on the furniture as 50% (whereas it is, in fact, up to 70%) and the discount on accessories like bins as 30%. I've no idea what that would have been in reality. Talk about smoke and mirrors!

  • Quote: I have insde knowledge on 4 different companies. Quote We have a tricky kitchen, in terms of measurements. Ikea have come up with a design, but somebody said that Howdens supply a bigger choice of cabinet size options. Is this correct? Are there any other good, low budget kitchen companies? Our previous kitchen was from Mereway (John Lewis). Very nice, but not cheap. Wh

howdens and ikea will supply almost the same unit sizes, as do most companies that level.

Howdens and IKEA do different unit sizes - with pros and cons to both. If anything Howdens have less choice of units but they tend to do 500, 600 and 1000 units, whereas IKEA tend to do 400, 600 and 800. On the whole Howdens will be more expensive - especially if you need a lot of end panels.

It might be worth trying Trend Interiors - it's Mereway's new launch of less expensive kitchens (they're aiming to compete with the likes of Howdens and Homebase) - and they have a much better choice of unit sizes than both of the others. Unfortunately, though, they seem to have backed down on putting the prices on-line ... you have to contact a local showroom.

I am at a loss as to why people pay thousands for a few cupboards and a worktop...
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Well - luckily for me - about 90% of the UK population doesn't share your point of view! In fact I work for quite a few people who are happy to pay tens of thousands for the same.:D

Majjie -Trend interiors are offering pws and tkc doors, not the actual mereway ones.
When there rep came to see me he showed me all the stuff, said they buying in bulk to offer it for less, yet for myself cheaper to go direct

Well, of course, the doors are going to be different - they wouldn't be cheaper otherwise would they?

The Sales Manager told me that the differences were:
    • Trend has 11 rather than 22 carcase colours
    • the carcasses have a top rail rather than a solid top (but then so do most carcasses at this price level!)
    • the wirework has a lower spec: Mereway kitchens use Kessebohmer; Trend is the equivalent of unbranded
    • you can only specify the depths of the carcasses (Mereway will do specials with different widths, heights and finishes)
    • 5 year warranty instead of 10
    • damaged/wrong units will be replaced only on return of the original (Mereway has a no quibble replacement policy)
    • Trend charges for delivery
    • they won't be spending much on marketing - just on SEO for the website
    • some of the accessories - like canopies/cornice are lower quality - machine made veneer, for instance, instead of solid wood handmade
    • there's a smaller choice of door styles
It could still be a much better choice than either IKEA or Howdens - especially with the backing and customer service of Mereway
