car tyres - what do you recommend?

Had those as well. I think Heros are slightly better in the dry, no difference at all in the wet.0

Buying rubber for the car shouldn't be about getting away with as little as possible.
As someone who regularly fits the cheapest available (though not to save money for take aways or the pub), people who drive on public roads so close to the limit that they'd fall off it with budget tyres are as bad as those who drive without proper brakes or MOTs0 -
Most of the time, yes - but the unexpected can always happen and a decent set of tyres could make all the difference. So could working brakes mind you and i'm sure there are many many people running about on a rainy day with a lethal combination of crap tyres, pads down to the metal, abs system !!!!!!ed etc etc.
Discussion that's been done to death and for another day I would say though. It's every individuals choice as of to what tyres they put on, el cheapos are perfectly legal to buy so many people do just that.0 -
Another vote for Toyo Proxes. A first class tyre at a very good price. Try Camskill (usually cheaper than most I find) and pay a local garage to fit them.0

Had someone pull out in front of the car in front of me a year ago, they skidded and T-boned the bloke. Thanks to decent tyres (no ABS) I stopped from 50mph with a few car lengths to spare. With cheap ditch finders there's a good chance I'd have skidded and written off my vehicle.0 -
Funnily enough, never had anything happen that's caused me to have to brake that hard in the past xx years and yyyyyy miles despite usually having a mix of brands ranging from cheap to really cheap to remoulds (when they weren't more than new budgets). And no, I don't drive everywhere at a crawl.
Must just be lucky I guess0 -
Good all round those Toyo T1R's and S.
Had loads on a B series Veccy.
Might go Toyo again next week but cant find any for less than £113 each. 225x40x18
Budget tyres, is it worth the risk!
For the sake of what, a tenner.
Mikey check out the fitting price, then add on disposal price, then add on balancing, then add inconvenience weare and tare etc, it will work out a lot dearer than Proxes (T1R's) above.0 -

It's in my post. £90 for two delivered, and £10 each fitted, balanced, at my local ATS, so £110 all in. Better than the much dearer £138 for Toyos, and a very good tyre, saving £28 and coming in under the £120 budget.0 -

Not much dearer at all its only £28 for piece of mind.
By your own reckoning £10 fitting Blackfriars and tyretraders fitting is £15.60 each, so only £16.80 dearer.
Also how long like for like, handling, stopping distances and so on etc do they rate? Thought so.......cheap for a reason.0
