Some advice please. Just lifted old carpet and underlay, new carpet due to be fitted stairs and landing on Thursday. Noticed we have quite a few gaps between some boards on the landing some maybe quarter inch or so,also some creaky ones. OH not big on DIY so can someone tell me do I have a problem here needs to be sorted out, or can underlay and carpet just be put down?

Given that it has been ok for the last however many years I would imagine it would be fine. I would fill them with some new boards. If it is possible I would lift the original boards and move them along to fill the small gaps and leave a large gap at one end which could then be filled with a new board.0

Were the gaps visible on the surface of the old carpet? Did the floorboards creak with the old carpet? If yes to either or both, then its worth putting it right before new carpet arrives. Creaky floorboards should be identified and screwed down, not nailed. Gaps...if they are substantial could be filled with either strips of wood or ideally, thin hard board over the top. It depends on the thickness and quality of the new underlay/carpet. A local handyman/joiner could do the job.perhaps if you post your area someone might recommend someone?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
