Wireless home plug?

I've been using home plugs like the ones below to give me connectivity upstairs in my house,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-Mbps-Home-Double/dp/B000TV7FJ4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1336938479&sr=8-2

However it does mean i've to plug any machine being used upstairs via an ethernet cable.

Is there any easy way to effectively give me a wireless home plug that i can use upstairs? Presumably i'd use some sort of wireless router or the likes and connect it to the homeplug?

Assuming the upstairs computers are wireless capable, why not simply replace your existing wired router with a wireless one?

As long as your house hasn't got internal stone walls this shouldn't be a problem.

My router downstairs is wireless, but the walls are thick on the house and upstairs floors concrete, so i cant get a decent signal upstairs.

Or is it a matter or connecting a wireless router to the homeplug upstairs?

What you need to look for is a "Wireless Access Point" - you can get them as stand alone units, that you connect to your existing home plug, or you can now get homeplugs with wireless points built in - There is one here (hasn't got great reviews, but it gives you an idea of what to look for)

You could use another wireless router if you are technically minded and able to set it up.

Try a Range Extender such as this http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php?products_id=209496&source=froogle

Just plug into the homeplug, configure, now you have a wireless network upstairs.......

Wireless homeplug kits are available - don't know if you need to replace the lot, or just buy the wireless 'half' ? Example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D-Link-DHP-W307AV-PowerLine-Homeplug-AV-Wireless-N-Kit-/150778778998?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item231b1d9576

Extenders will be the cheapest, and dare I say, best solution. This may help you decide..

I've used a Solwise one for a couple of years and it works just fine.

I've used two different Solwise ones, replacing an 85 Mbps one with a 200 Mbps one over a year ago. Very happy with them.

At work we just move the (85 Mbps) wireless homeplug to the room where someone wants to use a laptop - and we've taken the black aerial off the homeplug to save damaging it, and the wireless function still works perfectly well!

Surely the best ( and cheapest) option is just to use a router, I did pretty much the same thing with one of these

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004DD9E9I

It therefore gives your wireless and wired connections, and its really easy to do ( trust me if I can anyone can)

Just google "router as WAP" you need to fiddle with a few settings but its not hard.

I've had it set up for over a year now and its not had a single issue, the connection to it is so much better than the router down the stairs that I ended up disabling the downstairs ones wireless as devices connect better to the one positioned up the stairs throughout the house.

I have a wifi-homeplug adapter upstairs to give decent wifi coverage. Mine had 4 wired ports too I use for a blu ray player and such.

You can't mix different speeds (AFAIK) but 200mbps plugs are good enough for hi-def video streaming.
