Is it better to have no standing charge on your Gas/Elec bill than a standing charge, I don't understand how I know which is going to be cheaper for me. I currently pay a standing charge. Help!

It doesn't really make much difference unless the property is vacant as all companies (except Ebico) build a 'hidden' standing charge into the unit rates, basically by charging you extra for the first lot of power you use then the normal rates after that.

ask your supplier to change you to a no standing charge tariff should make no difference to what you pay. The only time it should matter is if the property is unoccupied for long periods in the year or if you are an extremely low user.
