    I would inform my insurers.

I had a small fender bender. It was my fault and I offered to pay for the damage and everything seemed amicable. Next thing I received a call from my insurers. The other driver had contacted their insurers and we both(?) lost our no claim record.

Then he contacted me and asked for payment. He got quite stroppy when I told him that as he had contacted his insurers I had no alternative but to let my insurers deal with it. fox trot alpha.

Had I paid him before my insurers contacted me, I could have suffered a double whammy. I would never offer to pay again.
