Best resort in Majorca for a couple

I have booked flights to Palma for July 6th but I can not decide where will be the best resort for us. We have been to Alcudia before and we was not too keen, round it over crowded and a bit chavvy.
We are 26 & 29, we do like nice bars for a bit of a drink but not too rowdy every night. Probably would have one night out in Magaluf but the rest of the time somewhere a little quieter. Not too quiet though lol. We was thinking Santa Ponsa but I have read very mixed reviews. Has anyone been there recently? Also id the beach nice? Is there much to do around there? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have a look at Cala D'or, it's on the south east coast, quite low key, lots of restaurants around a large marina where you can enjoy an evening meal next to the Yachts!0

Palma Nova- just before Magalluf - seemed nice, as did Santa Ponca (far west of the island).Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Cala D'or is quite nice, lots of bars and restaurants. I wouldn't go back though, there are lots of restaurants but, unfortunately, they all seem to use the same menu!0

Although the beach is reasonable rather than great, Port Soller is my favourite.0

Puerto Soller is also MY favourite. You can get a little tram into Soller, a lovely little town, and from there a wooden "heritage" train into Palma, which is a beautiful journey.
Puerto Soller quite quiet, but nice restaurants/bars and cafes and Palma's pretty close.Normal people worry me.0 -
Don't discount stopping in the city of Palma itself. There are loads of bars and restaurants and it has a more adult feel than the resorts. You can easily do day trips to the beaches by bus.
I read one guidebook which in the section on recommended restaurants in Magaluf it had "none - go to Palma for dinner"0 -
Puerto Soller on west coast is lovely and not overly invaded by Brits. great driving roads out north of the resort aswell!
Puerto Pollensa on north coast is also lovely and has great marina, flat beach and bathing, plenty of eating and drinking places along the Pine walk and nothing like its neighbour Alcudia!0
