refund advice

Options
Hi a newbie but always read the site so looking forward to any advice here goes:

Bought a new kitchen from Wickes it carried some discount etc and I paid the toatal in full with debit card-told we could return anything for refund at later stage etc

Today i was shocked when returning some items the sales man said he was taking all the discount off each item returned as this had not been done so for a unit I paid £118 he took off £42 odd and that is just an example of the refund, I took 4 items back and he took £185 off my original payment leaving me with £145 refund- this cannot be right. His discount was taken off before I paid
originally so i beleive I am owed what I paid in total- what is right please advise my next step, thinking trading standards

Whether it is right or not depends on a number of things.

For example, if the deal was something like "spend over £1000 and get 25% off" and returning the items brings the total spend under that limit, the you will lose that "25% off".

Or perhaps you have a receipt which lists each item and their individual list prices, and then the discount is taken off the total?
In this case, if, for example, the item shows at £100, but (say) a 25% discount was given on the total, then you should only receive a refund of £75 when returning the item. The reason being that you only paid £75 for the item.

Or have I missed the point entirely?

Why are you returning the goods? Are they faulty? Or just that you don't want them any more?

There is no obligation to accept/refund returns so perhaps you are paying a restocking fee for the shop's inconvenience of having to re-stock? Wickes are more trade-based than the consumery B&Q, etc.
