Planning and budgeting house renovations

Hi everyone,
I am wondering if there is any advice for planning and budgeting for house renovations. The house we are in the process of buying (touch wood the sale goes through) is a 1930s build in great condition but with a lot of updating that needs to happen. It is mostly superficial.
Some of the works we will need to undertake are, pulling down polystyrene tiles from ceilings, electrical rewiring (not being done ourselves) and subsequent skirting board replacements, floorings, ripping out funny (fairly useless) cubbyholes and re-plastering the gaps, restoring doors/bannisters etc, fitting electric shower, merging the toilet and bathroom, retiling bathroom, a lot of general redecorating.
This is not an exhaustive list but you get the idea. Will be doing as much as possible by ourselves (eeek!)
Any advice on how to make a real plan and budget, how to prioritise work etc will be vastly welcome. We are pretty novice but wil be able to draw on advise and help from family members.
Thank you in advance.
Also just to say, this is my first post but so many of my google posts end up leading to this forum so I thought I'd join it!
