Sort code and account number, You can do wonderful things with that.
As Jeremy Clarkson found out some time back. When he printed his account number in the paper? i think?
He said it was safe you cannot do anything with it. He was wrong it seems.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It is people misunderstanding that were wrong.
A direct debit was set up using the details and going to a charity. When the bank advised Clarkson about the debit he allowed it to go through as it was a charity but he then canelled it as he is able to do under the direct debit guarantee.
So for a seller to be conned by this they would need to have an account they never check, ignore all letters from their bank advising them that a direct debit has been set up, and not notice that payments have gone out. Even then they can claim the payments back.
Think about it logically, your sort code and bank account was on every cheque you ever wrote, all those party plan parties, all those private cheques you sent to ebay sellers before paypal- every single one of those was as capable of having this done as just using a bank transfer.
The buyer here is extremely unlikely to get teir money back, the banks warn when you send a personal transfer that you need to check the details as they cannot be recalled.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just because something can happen, doesn't mean it will.
Every time you cross the road, you take a risk - but that doesn't mean that every time you do it you fall under a bus.
Not giving out your bank details because of the Clarkson scam is like never crossing roads because of buses."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

The simple fact is.
Ebay dont care. If they did, their entire site would be more userf friendly in attmpting to report things and getting info.
Their one concern is getting your money, nothing else matters to themThe DWP = Legally kicking the Disabled when they are down.0 -
