domain name registration with DNS settings

Hi who should i register my domain name with so i get DNS settings, in order for my web designer to build my site?

I dont mind paying a little more than usual just so i know i get the best service, and go with a reputable company....

Does it make a difference in terms of page loading, speed etc who i get the domain from?

Doesn't matter which one you go with really, just customer service and price is what you will be after.

Once you purchase a domain name you will need to update the DNS setting so they point back to where your site is hosted, you wont be given DNS settings with your domain name these will come from your hosting and then you have to point the domain to the hosting.

You can register with any hosting provider for that, your web designer should advise you of this. I host with HostGator and never had a problem.

    Thank you

My webdesigner is goign to host the site for me.

But i want to purchase the domain in myname, so it is my company rather than get them to puraches it for me

Hostgator is an american comapny, and fee's are in dollars? wouldnt it make more sense for me to get a domain with a Uk comapny and pay in £'s?

My designer said i can register the domain with anyone as long as i have the option with them to set up DNS settings?

He suggested 1&1 or streamline.net as cheaper options but then i was thinking i dont want to go too cheap and end up with a rubbish company?

I have bought domains through easily.co.uk since March 2000 - always been very reliable and helpful. In fact I have transferred in from some other companies as the easily offering is simple, solid, and just what I needed. I've probably had about 30-odd domains through them over time, and still keep my DNS with them despite hosting elsewhere

Edit - anyone else remember back in the day when nominet would actually send you a paper certificate of registration?!

    try namecheap.com
you will probably find it cheaper and better to host with someone other than your designer
    i don't recommend hostgator - try medialayer.com or simplywww.com or monstermegs.com

123-Reg are the company I've used for donkeys years.

That said, normally you would change the nameserver so it points to your hosting rather than the DNS unless you are intending to have the email etc hosted by someone other than your developer

Yeh it's nameservers you'll be changin, not the DNS.

Your designer will give you the nameservers when he activates the website hosting.
    I too would recommend 123-reg.
1and1 I would defintely not. You will find out why when you try and NOT renew.

Having said that 123reg just caught me for two years .com renewal without me realising. You couldn't be up to any of them. Check regularly...

Gonna have to agree with this guy here, I've been with namecheap since I started getting into the web stuff about 7 years ago. Never once had a problem with them and find their free 1 year whoisguard and prices quite competitive.

    Highly recommend them
