Dose any one have any idea what the Ayesbury Branch of Atos is like please. We cant go to our local one has my oh can no longer manage the stairs and Atos say he cant go there anymore in case of fire. I know the Dr who saw my oh last time was fair but i am awear that they are not all like this.
My oh suffers with Ostoarisits in both knees right hip and has Spondolisits in his neck he also suffer Deppersion but this is manage with meds at the moment. My oh is very obbese and is awaiting a decssion on wheather he can have a gastric band as he cant lose wight due to his disabillitys.
At my oh last medical he was put in the work foucussed group which was the right deccsion for him. As so long as he can get his wheelchair accomaded he could do an office bassed job. But since then we have heard some right old horror stories of people much worse than him beening told they are fit for work and beeing put on JSA. So any comments about Atos good or bad would be great thanks

Sorry but your OH can lose weight - I do and I cannot exercise at all. I am also clinically obese and was put forward as a candidate for the gastric band type op. I am now 10 stone+ down since 2007. Most of that since 2009.
All a gastric band does is cause significant problems and you can in fact shrink your stomach by doing one simple thing. Eat healthy small saucer plate sized snacks 6-8 times per day, same calories just in smaller portions. Doing that for 8 weeks will shrink capacity down. Trust me it works. Eat a higher ratio of protein to carbohydrates and keep fat levels at a reasonable level. So for me - this means all my meals and snacks are based 2:1 protein /Carbs or if you like to put it another way lots of meat/fish and small amount of potato/pasta/rice. The protein stops the carb cravings as it satisfies you far longer. Add in some nice fresh fruit like some apples along the way and I am certain that he can and will lose weight. Yes it will be slow, but the weight as it goes down will stay off. Drinking sugary fizzy drinks - if you need them, go down Zero route, but limit how much to one glass per day. Keeping to water and milk (red top), cutting out white refined sugar in tea and coffee. If you need biscuits - have 2 rich tea fingers or marie type ones. And bearing in mind I'd been gaining in size since my late teens early 20's and had not lost anything since then and that is nearly 30 years back now. So by my worst point I was carrying 3 people around. I am now down to 2 people and it still going down. My GP is amazed. I now weigh less than in 1988.
If he has osteo arthritis, then limiting how much citrus fruit juice may help as well. It is well known for agrovating that condition. When I do not have any - pain goes - but as soon as I drink some - back it comes.0 -

I second this.
Exercise to lose weight is - for most people - a lie.
Do a half marathon a week.
You can gain weight doing this, if you eat one marathon bar a day.
(Unfortunately, this works less well with the new name).
Calorie counting - it's deeply boring, and actually works.
Are you getting him food?
If so - stop, other than regularly spaced small, healthy snacks, and a low-calorie main meal.
If you're disabled, yes, eating is one thing you can do.
This doesn't mean it's a good idea!
I recommend http://www.livestrong.com/myplate/ - as a calorie tracker.
Portion distortion is the problem.
I used to eat a bowl of muesli for breakfast.
I still do.
It's just before I used to eat a normal-sized bowl, full enough that I had to worry about spillages.
Now I have a small bowl, with a few spoonfuls in.
The larger bowl would be perhaps 1000 calories total, the smaller one 180.
I fortunately was 'only' morbidly obese 115Kg or so at 1.8m.
But I've now lost 40Kg.
I did not suffer from arthritis - 'just' chronic fatigue syndrome.
But I can now get off the sofa without straining, even on my not-so-good days.
As to the actual question - phone them up and ask!0 -
Thank you for your replys
My oh has suffered weight problems all his life he has worked from the age of 16 6 days a week untill the age of 40 when his knees gave way on him his weight then was 15 -16 stone .
When his knee went he was sent home from work and never went back at first they thought he had a twisted knee and the other knee hurt because he was walking funny then they sent him for mri showed up the oesteoarthritis in both the knees the hospital recomanded a endoscopi which showed he had no cartlidge
I wish he never had that op as before he walked in to the hospital slow limping but walked he come out wheel chair they said once the op pain had passed he would be able to walk but every time he trys the knee gives way and he falls
Durring one of his many falls he noticed his hip hurt we told the GP who sent us to the hospital found out he has it in his hip to then a year later he begain have bad headaches beeing sick vission bad ect attacks happening 2 -3 a week lasting days one would go another arrived GP says it spondlisitis in his neck
With all this going on we took our eye of the ball with his weight next thing we know hes 23 stone again back to gp sent to obesity clinic at hospital put on the milk diet 12 weeks my oh did it lost 5 stone but once he went on the re feed the weight started to go back on the hospital coundnt under stand and put it down to lack of excercise then said he should have a gastric band op but they could fund it and appled for special funding from pct which we are waiting for in the mean time he has been discharged awaiting a decssion because in our area you can only stay at the obesity clinic for 12 months and his time is up the thing is i dont think he eats that much a typical day is
