Am I entitled to compensation

Hi, We have just recenlty purchased a kitchen from B&Q of which we were getting our own fitter to install. The designer did not work our the dimensions correctly so we did not have a work top log enough - we had to have a breakfast bar as we needed a wider worktop. As the worktop curves, it curved too soon so did not cover the base cabinets. A replacement worktop was sent but it had a different finish to the edges, so did not match. Now they say they do not do a worktop at the width we need. I paid for the kitchen on Mastercard - do I have the right to compensation as the worktop/s provided are not fit for purpose?

obviously your first point of complaint is B&Q; if they can't provide the products ask foir a full refund and then go elsewhere.

If B&Q had been going to fit it they would have had a surveyor come and check all measurements and would therefore be responsible. But as you are using your own fitter it was really up to you to double check all the figures. I think the instore designers figures are used for pricing more than anything.

We made a similar mistake once with our bathroom where we used a plan drawn out by a bathroom companies designer without checking the measurements and later found out we had to redo it as there was an error.

  • Hi

I would accept that if they had not actually come out and done the measuring up - I put my faith in them as I do not know the first thing about what I needed. What is the point of them coming out and measuring up and planning the kitchen if you then have to double check what they have done?

    Thanks:mad:

But was the measuring up for a price or would they have used those figure?. If it was a salesperson/designer I think they would have followed up with a surveyor when the job was booked to double check.

Our bathroom situation was also measured up by the visiting salesperson/designer. Contact B&Q but I don't think they will be responsible. They may even have a disclaimer printed on the design/quote have you checked that?
