Could be a few things but the wheel tracking comes to mind. Costs about 20 quid in kwik fit to put right

It could be something very simple like tracking - £25 from a tyre place, not possible for DIY.

It could be uneven tyre pressures - 20p at the local garage although you should be checking these. Worn suspension parts such as a track rod end or a spring would be about £100 fixed.

It could be something horrendous as well like the car's been in an accident and the suspension isn't on straight though... There are lots of possible causes but the most likely and easiest to fix is tracking.

  • Phew - not too bad then, I checked the tyre pressure already so tracking sounds good I'll get it checked, Thanks:beer:

if your getting the tracking checked make sure thay check the front suspension as high milage 406s are prone to wishbone bush and ball joint wear this can all contribute to any car pulling to one side plus if the tracking is adjusted when the suspesion is worn you have just wasted your time and money
  • jack it up and secure it on blocks so the wheels hang freely then check for freeplay in the joints by holding at 12 and 6 oclock and trying to lift the wheel, then 3 and 9 oclock and rocking side to side, any play would feel like the wheel was loose on its mount, indicating bearing freeplay or suspension joint wear.
check for even wear across the tyre tread, uneven wear indicates incorrect track adjustment.
swap front tyres over, sounds stupid but often cures pulling, though i never figured out why!
