Back Boiler to New Condenser Combi

Hi,

I've had a few quotes now for converting my ex council house old back boiler into a new (hopefully cost saving) combi boiler. BG quoted nearly 5K, another local company quoted 3,200 but this so far has been the best. Please can you let me know your thought's on the following please.

Strip and removal of back boiler (old housewarmer), cylinder, tanks and radiator valves.

Supply and fit glow worm 30cxi condensing combi boiler with timeclock and room thermostat.

Supply and fit thermostatic radiator valves to all radiators except hallway ( 7 in total)

Supply and fit 27x11 radiator into kitchen

Add cleanser to heating system, full flush and add inhibitor to system.

Inclusive of all electrical, labour and materials.

I have two options, fitted in airing cupboard in bathroom £2062.26
or fiited in loft £2454.12.

What do you guys think about the price. My mother in law is paying for it so it won't actually cost us anything but I don't want her to be ripped off. He thinks job will take about 3 days, is this about right ?

Look forward to your responses.

    2k is prob ok.
the boiler is about 600/700 quid. the valves about 7/14 quid each. rad say 50 quid.
say 1k max for all materials.
i think 1000 for labour is enough for 3 days!

does anyone here know what BG pay their ch engineers?
    (bg really are a joke).

i have freinds who had their quote reduced by £1k if they pulled out all the unnecesary bits themselves, they had to get someone to turn the gass of first but that only cost £50 so still a huge saving if your happy to do the manual work.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
  • Hi, might be worth checking some government sites like warm deal, i know one was giving some grant towards installing condensing boilers.
Sorry i can't be more specific, but might be worth looking into.
  • You mean 'Warm Front'. If you're on certain benefits you can get up to 100% grants to the cost of improvements such as loft and cavity wall insulation and replacement boilers.

We had them round to do a survey but they said would only repair or replace an existing boiler if it was not working at all (they are really there to put heating into houses where none exists currently). Our 8 year old boiler finally broke down completely on Friday (after 8 very troublesome years!) so we rang Warm Front again and they said they would arrange for an engineer to to call us but we would have to wait at least 2 weeks for them to get in touch and 4 to 6 weeks after that for them to come and see us!
