need some help

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place to put this, so I a apologise if its the wrong place.I am not new to the forums but as I have friends on here.I have created a new name.

There is only the two of us and we are on a pension which we try very hard and do all the right things, I am always on the old style threads.
I have always paid my rent in cash every month, have done for the last seven years.

About three weeks ago my nephew came round to help my husband put up some shelves, he was here for a while and them left. The next day I was getting ready to pay my rent and when I went to get the money ready to put in an envelope it had gone . It was in my handbag in our bedroom I searched everywhere but is was gone

I rang the landlady up and told her I was going to be abit late in paying so she give me an extra three weeks. I have spoke to my nephew and asked him if he happen to see my purse when he was here as it as gone missing. He started to shouting at me for thinking he would take it and now the rest of the family are mad at me. I know in my heart he took it hes the only one whos been to our place in the last 6 weeks. I cant tell my husband as he already has had two breakdown and this would cause another one.

I have been trying to save as much as I can over the last three weeks but have only saved £80, which means I am £370 short. Can anyone tell me isthere anywhere you can borrow that amout of money really quick as I need it by Monday but can only pay back £25 a week. I know it doesnt sound like alot of money but I have a feeling that my landlady will ask us to move out if I dont have it.Also we havent had a good year so far we lost a brother and grandson this year.

To be quite honest if my husband wasnt here with me, I think I would have ended it by now.
I just didnt know where else to turn as most of my family now dont speak to me.
I am sorry if I have put this in the wrong place, just at the moment I am not sure of anything.

Thank you for reading this.I just needed someone to talk too

Have you checked with your husband in case he moved it?

And maybe now that you have a little breather with the landlady, just have another search around of everywhere you looked before.

Other than that, I agree with going to the police.

Report the 'theft' to the police.

Do NOT go down the route of a 'payday' loan.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

I agree with going to police, his fingerprints might be on the handbag, if he did it just as a chance thing! I am sure the landlady will not chuck you out, ask if you can add the backpayment to the next few weeks rent. it will cost her more toI hope you are getting all the financial help you need?

why dont you want your friends to know, wont they support you?

Absolute little s**t. I agree, since your family have already taken his side, I would give him an ultimatum. Pay or you'll report it to the police. However, might be a good idea to ABSOLUTELY confirm that you didn't misplace it first.

I know you don't want to tell your husband, so I presume he doesn't know the money is missing. I would have to tell him that you can't find the money initially, it's not right that you have to go through this on your own. If you go to the police, he's going to find out anyway and two heads are better than one and you may come up with something together. If I was in your position I think I would go to my bank and see if I could get an overdraft for the balance.
I do hope all ends well for you and that toe rag of a nephew gets his just desserts.
  • Hi Holysmum. Ok some advice re the housing. Your LL cannot evict you for rent arrears unless you are 8 weeks in arrears. In terms of this I suggest you tell her situation and ask if you can pay an extra £100 pm until you catch up.

Re your nephew - I agree you should contact the police but I know how difficult it can be to take action like that against your family. You might not want to do that but you have every right to, although I guess there is little real evidence he took it despite the fact its gone and he was the only person in your home. Don't let him in again ever.

I'm really sorry you've gone through this x

What a horrid and worrying experience! I agree that he's probably guilty, that's why he shouted at you. An innocent person would surely have been more concerned for your loss.
Also the rest of the family should have stopped to think what effect losing this amount of money will have on you both - better people would have a whip round and see how much they can pool together to help you out.
Thank goodness you can choose your friends...
If you report it to the police as a theft would a crime ref. number allow you to claim on home insurance?
