Wilting tree peonie

I have a tree peonie which I purchased this year from either Thompson & Morgan or Van Muen (can't remember). It was supplied as a bare root and I now have lots of lovely leaves and 8 or 9 flower heads, problem is in the last couple of days the stems with flowers on have started to wilt.
I have checked it today and it was neither too wet or too dry so I have no idea why it is starting to wilt!?
Anyone here have any experience of tree peonies?

Everybody had tree peonies when I was a child. I liked their big blowsy heads, but my mother hated them because they didn't last long, even less as cut flowers, and drooped at the slightest provocation. Have they been rained on hard? That used to be enough to knock the stuffing out of ours.import this0

We have a big well established peony tree, that flowers beautifully but quite briefly every year in early May, and it is not a happy camper this year at all- I imagine its the few weeks of rain, the flower buds are on shorter stems, are about half the size they usually are, and petals are falling off even before they have opened.0

Today is the first time in about 12 days that it hasn't rained, we have had flooding and all sorts here so maybe that is the reason?0 -
Are you sure it's not drooping rather than wilting? Tree paeonies are very top heavy when in flower and need support or they'll bend over heavily0
