Posting to Canada...my brain is not working

Looking at RMs site to post a 250g item to Canada, its quite a small item. This is the page i am getting http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinderResults?pageId=pc_sltc_rm_results&keyname=rmPriceFinderResults&catId=23500532

Now i am nearly sure that i should send it International Signed for but i am a bit confused by the prices and it says somewhere that i should add £4.20 onto the price but do i send by ISF small packets?? Or if i send by normal ISF do you still have to add on £4.20. Argggh confused

I work it out to be approximately £3.50 + £5.40 = £8.90. Is the item valuable? Be careful when sending via International Signed For as in the event of a dispute it is not always accepted as online trackable.

Whereabouts on the front? I didn't know that, would that be the same for sending anywhere else?

No it is not a valuable item, worth under a tenner but i thought that for Paypal you needed to send it via signed for or airsure but it doesn't come up with airsure for canada.

It was on another page but i think it was for airsure, just got myself into a muddle.

I have to get a quote to send another item to usa now lol.

I've always been told the top left.

Also, when sending to Canada, make sure your Return Address includes your name as well as your address. I've had an item sent back before because my name was missing.

Other places aren't as strict, although it is always best to but a return address on them.

This is taken from the PayPal website. Just something to be aware of when using International Signed For.
    PayPal wrote:
Royal Mail does not officially provide online tracking (with proof of delivery) for the International Signed For service. In some instances however, delivery details may be available online. If these details map to the buyer's postal address shown on the Transaction Details page, PayPal may consider it as sufficient proof of delivery. However, since availability of delivery details cannot be predicted, sellers may not be able to rely on this method for proof of delivery in order to be covered by PayPal's Seller Protection Policy.

Yeah, AirSure isn't available for Canada.

Write your name address on the front (top left) of the package.

  • If there isn't really a trackable method for sending something small to canada then would it maybe be worth just sending by bog standard airmail?
It gives you the option to send by small packets, has anyone used this, i keep reading the info and it looks like its more expensive to send a letter than it is to send a packet, can this be right?

If you ask for a Certificate of Posting when you send the item that will cover you up to £32 if the item goes missing.

Yeah a letter is more expensive than a small packet.

I would just send your packet by ordinary airmail small packet as it is of low value. If the worst comes to the worst you can refund the buyer and claim back from the PO with a certificate of posting. there is no need to pay the extra for signed for or airsure.

Small packet and letter are two different rates of charges for international post - small packet being cheaper. You can send a packet as letter rate if you wish - there does not seem to be a difference in delivery time as far as I can see - it just costs more unless it is very light.
