    Yes, I knida got that but I have no idea how they think I am another person as I am not but I guess such people can think what they like as I know who I am and they do not.

    Probably not legal if you are asking what law it is - Sorry I do not not know the name for the law but it is ILLEGAL not to do the above

    Regulation 97 of The Income Tax (Pay As You Earn) Regulations 2003.

    MissSarah1972 is quite correct, there is an obligation to keep PAYE records, so difficult manager aside, someone in the company should have proof of the OP's employment. Failing that, any other managers/co-workers prepared to write a short note confirming they worked with you from XX to YY?

    OP, I went through a similar process and was allowed to start my new job even though the screening company hadn't yet managed to follow up on everything. It took them several weeks to finish checking me out - maybe worth asking if you need to wait for a satisfactory check prior to the discussed start date?
