background check - worried im going to fail

I've had a job offer to start on the 21/05/12 and I'm currently undergoing a background check through a vetting agency.I listed on my cv that I had a bar job for a few months in 2010. The vetting agency has asked for documents to prove it but I don't have any. I never got a contract and I was paid in cash (although there was a payslip) I never got a p45 either.

I phoned my ex manager today and she said that she's already been contacted and pretty much hung up. I doubt she even remembers me as the turnover in that place is so high. She's known for being a very difficult woman.

The thing is the vetting agency never asked for any details from my other employer so I've got this awful feeling that the bar manager never confirmed what I put down on my CV and that's why they asked for proof.

I'm just really worried now, I need this job so badly, I'm totally broke and the jobcentre is an absolute nightmare, haven't received any money from then even though I've been signing on since Feb.

Is the bar one of a big chain?

Send the vetting people copies of your payslips?

no it's not a chain. I didn't keep my payslips either, I just saw it as a crappy p/t job whilst at uni and I didnt see the point. It was only about 6 hours a week.

Learnt my lesson now. I'll become one of those people that hoards paperwork

Then find out who owns it and write to them. They have to by law keep payroll records.

And what law would that be?

I am feeling you are being sarcastic so maybe I am wrong but I doubt it since I have worked in PAYROLL!

Why records need to be kept and for how long

It's essential to keep accurate payroll records so HMRC can make sure that:
    • you and your employees are paying the right amount of tax and NICs
    • your employees are getting any statutory pay they're entitled to
    • you're complying with legislation on things like the national minimum wage
You'll also need these records so that you can file Employer Annual Returns and provide evidence to support the entries made on it - if HMRC asks for such evidence. HMRC often refers to the keeping of good records as 'taking reasonable care' to get your returns right.
You must keep your PAYE records for the current and previous three tax years. You can keep them in either an electronic or a paper format.
Using software to maintain your employees' payroll records saves you time and helps reduce error. It also makes it easier and quicker for you to file your Employer Annual Return (forms P35 and P14) online - this is now a requirement for almost all employers.

Records relating to pay, tax and NICs

You must keep full and accurate payroll records for each employee for the current and previous three tax years.
    These must include:
    • a record of their name and address
    • payslips or some other record showing their gross earnings, the tax, NICs and any student loan repayments you deduct, and their net pay - you can use a form P11 or an equivalent payroll record (such as an employee's record in a commercial payroll software package)
    • records used in order to complete any form P11Ds you've filed for benefits in kind and expenses
You'll also need to keep details of:
    • any additional NICs paid for the year, like Class 1A NICs
    • pension payments
    • statutory payments - these are Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Adoption Pay, Ordinary Statutory Paternity Pay and Additional Statutory Paternity Pay - read the next two sections on this page for more details
    • leave and sickness absences, overtime, commission and bonuses
    • the value of benefits and expenses payments
    • payments you've made to HMRC - or recoveries you've claimed
HMRC may ask to see evidence of how you made your calculations for any of these. They may also ask to see supporting information like invoices and receipts.
If you still use paper PAYE forms rather than keeping electronic payroll records, HMRC can provide some standard forms to help you work out and record the figures you need:
    • P11 - pay and deductions working sheet for Income Tax and NICs
    • P11D - expenses and benefits in kind
    • P32 - payments you make to HMRC
You don't have to use these forms - but if you're still keeping paper records you'll probably find they make life easier. If you choose to use your own paper records rather than using HMRC forms, you must make sure they include all the information HMRC needs.
If you don't keep full records, HMRC may make estimates of what you'll have to pay.
Payroll calculations and records - an introduction

    etc etc etc

Probably not legal if you are asking what law it is - Sorry I do not not know the name for the law but it is ILLEGAL not to do the above

It always slightly worries me when an old poster (who's been silent but has been very active and vocal in the past) goes silent for a few days.

and then returns with a new similar user name and posts very similar posts to what they posted before.

I am never sure if they're a troll, have been found out of something by another poster here etc.

mynameistallulah I think you've sniffed this one out. well done!

Sarah, what they are saying is that you and LadyMissA are both the same person.
