British Gas Admit Misleading Pricing

Of course I don't work for British Gas; joining the forum this month it hasn't taken you long to ask the usual puerile question of those who cannot think of anything more original to say.
Funnily enough I had a visit from a BG fitter yesterday. I was told it was would be in the period between 12pm and 6pm. Do you know I didn’t expect him to be here for the whole time from 12pm to 6pm; I expected him to be here at some time during the period between 12pm and 6pm.
But then I am the sort of person who when I was on Economy 7(seven) was not surprised it was for 7(seven) hours in an 8(eight) hour period.
The quotes you have given from BG are 100% correct. The length of the economy 7( seven hours - got it?) tariff is for 7 hours between the period that lasts eight hours from 11:30pm to 7:30am. There is nothing, but nothing, to indicate that an Economy 7(seven) tariff lasts for 8(eight) hours.
As I rather suspected your post is totally misleading and amply demonstrates that understanding the English language is not your strongest point.0 -
As far as i know it if your in a supply number starting with 20 (Not sure but that sounds about right for bournemouth) then your times are as follows
In the winter its for 7 Hours from 11.30pm - 6.30am and in the summer its from 12.30am to 7.30am.
Based on your test with a screwdriver that sounds right to me. You can see why they would say that its from 11.30 - 7.30am because thats the time band it covers throughout the year.
If you wanted information on the times your E7 comes on you could always contact your local distributor.0 -

Gal,
The trouble is the OP cannot see why they would say that(although everyone else can) and he contends that phrase means he should get Economy 7 prices for the whole of that 8 hours.
That is why he says that BG have been misleading all of us.0 -

lol I can see that. Hopefully my lost post clears up the mistake - that it seems both sides have made - Bgas should have explained it as above and the OP should realise that E7 Means 7 hours and not 8.

Wow what a hot one, thanks for your various bits of advice re times and for your support (except of course for Cardrew who clearly has his own agenda).
I started out not believing British Gas when they repeatedly said (at that stage over the phone) that the period for their Economy 7 pricing was 8 hours (I might not be as bright as Cardrew (who could be) but even I had worked out that 'Economy 7' would mean 7 hours, despite repeatedly putting this logic to BG they repeatedly reiterated that I was getting 8 (eight - thanks for spelling the numbers for me Cardrew) so as unreasonable as it seemed having had this confirmed by various members of their staff (as they admit) I began to wonder could this altruistic company actually be allowing 8 hours at cheap rate, yes they said, they were, until they said they never had been, and needed to retrain their staff.
Anyway thanks Caldrew for clearing up that you don't work for British Gas, you just seem like you would be a natural for their customer service department, you would fit right in.0 -
I am not sure why I'm being accused of working for BG, either, as Cardew is. I don't, and Cardew doesn't.
We both just have a clue what we are talking about, unlike the OP and most of those posting on this thread.
Now, I don't have any doubt that the OP believes that he was told by BG that he was getting 8 hours of Economy 7. Nor do I believe that BG were right to say that (or to let him believe that).
But both Cardew's and my comments about the times it's available for and how it works are quite right, and there's no need to enter into slanging matches either way.
Thanks for judging that I'm rich and don't care about my Economy 7 times, too, nomis - good that you know everything about everyone.
I care very much when my Economy 7 hours are; I run all my washing machine and dishwasher cycles overnight and save a lot of money by doing so. But I'm not going to wake up at 6am to do the washing, so I run them on the timer in the middle of the night and luckily can't hear them from my bedroom.0 -

Think almost everyone that has posted in this thread actually knows what there talking about by the looks of it.0 -
Apart from nomis, obviously?

I live in the North West and know exactly my Economy times. I get my 7 hours as 2 hours from 10:30 to 12:30 then another 5 hours from 2:30 to 7:30.
How do I know this? By looking at the metre when I had to stay up late one night. You can tell becasuse the Low/Night readings start when the Economy 7 starts, also on my metre there is a red plastic indicator on the metre that goes up when Economy 7 starts and then down when is goes back to normal rate.
My bill comes from British Gas but they do not control the times. These are set by the local electricty supplier who, in my case, uses a radio signal sent to my metre/control box.Regards
