Some very informative posts on here, I have just bought a new car through a lease purchase and I am very happy too. I took gap insurance to have peace of mind.

I just looked at their website to get an idea what was on offer. What a scary website . I haven't seen one that badly designed in years. The company may be very good, but the website makes them look monumentally dodgy!

Don't be put off by the bonkers website, it's very much a deliberate ploy and certainly doesn't harm her business as she's one of the most successful independent lease hire companies out there.

Well, they could be making money despite the terrible website and could actually do better if they improved it, but sadly I fear you may be right. Quite why there should be a demand for a car lease company whose website looks like a dodgy ebay shop is beyond me though, but as I'm not about to consider leasing a new car, I acknowledge I'm not their target market.

My biggest fear with a lease car would be the charges they will make up when you send it back - make sure to take tons of photographs.

We've always found Ling's cars to be really expensive, but I guess maybe it differs for different car types.

I can only echo the comments above, you need to work out what is cheapest for what you want. We've definitely found that some cars are a no brainer on PCP/contract hire, as you can get some amazing deals. Our first contract hire deal was £270 per month inc tax for an SLK which was way cheaper than getting a new one through any other method.

Whereas for other car types you just can't seem to get value for money through PCP or contract hire. We did a massive spreadsheet, working out costs for purchase v hire, it's the only way you'll know what is right for you.

Who do you use for leasing?

Whoever is cheapest at the time to be honest, I'm not loyal ;)

Currently directly with Mercedes leasing, who were cheapest for what we wanted this time around. Our last contract was with Wessex Fleet Solutions who did us a fantastic deal.

I usually start by looking at http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/, it's a comparion site which is a great starting point. You have to watch out for 'ghost' deals on there though which is a pain, however there are lots of genuine ones too.

I would always look everywhere I can, including the Ling's Cars which was mentioned above (remember seeing her on Dragon's Den!!) but for what we've been after they've always been really expensive.

The key is to take into account the full cost, not just the monthly payments. A lot of places like to lure you in with low monthly payments, but a high 6x (or even more) up front payment.

Work out the total cost over the period, including admin fee, up front payment, plus monthly payments, then you'll see what is cheapest for you. And don't forget to take account of residual values and final purchase options if you are going for PCP rather than contract hire.

Our first deal we had was a contract hire, as it was a no brainer and cheaper over the period, even when we compared against buying outright and then selling at the end of the period.

Whereas our current deal is PCP - we have no intention of purchasing at the end, but it just so happened that this time it worked out cheaper than contract hire.
