Xpelair fan

Hi all, we have an Xpelair fan in the kitchen, through the wall. The louvred flaps don't open when the fan is on, and I don't think that it's clearing the room enough. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether the flaps should open? Or possible causes as to why they don't if they should open?
We've checked from outside and there's nothing stopping them from opening, and they do open when it's windy outside. The wall the fan is situated through is approx 40cm wide (an old stone property) Any advice welcome, TIA, C.C.L.

It may well be the shutter actuator that needs replaicing similar to this http://www.cattermoleelectrical.co.uk/new-type-shutter-actuator-40984sk-i90.html depends on the model of the fan you have, basically when you switch the fan on a voltage is applied to the actuator, this heats a small ammount of wax up that is inside the actuator, that is inside a small piston which when the wax inside melts it expands and opens the shutters.
I have no link with the company in the link. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Thanks for that muckybutt, but I can't see anything like that inside. I think I may have to get someone out to have a look at it.0
