New Laptop advice

I need to buy a new laptop and need advice please.
I have seen a HP Pavillion G6 1347EA with an I5 2450M 2.5ghz processor
Dell Inspirion M5040 with an AMD Dual core processor
Dell Intel core CPUM 380 2.53GHZ processor
All have ample RAM and hard drive for me.

I don`t understand about the processor bit of the PC. The HP is the most expensive does that make it the best?

I use the PC for email, web browsing and occassional TV viewing. I don`t do gaming.

Any advice welcome

All three lappies will do what you want. Some might say the I5 is overkill for what you want to do, but in terms of upgrades during the life of any system,, you can upgrade most things, but probably not the cpu/motherbaord combo.

The I5 2540m is an Intel I series 2nd Generation cpu, with a relative index value of 3.6 passmark (higher is better). It will probably give you ralatively quicker response for longer than the others.

The CPUM 380, actually I3 380M, is the older Intel 1st gen cpu, with index value of 2.3 passmark.

AMD cpu, you don't say which model, but generally the current range of Intel processors are considered better than AMD - the one thing in AMD's favour, is that the embedded graphics is better than Intel's, which is important where graphics is important.

I bought an HP Pavilion G6 recently. It has an i3 processor. When someone asked me why I got an i3 when i5 and i7 are available, I said "why pay a lot extra for a car that can do 120 mph when you only use it in London! "

When I did my research, I read that the i5 was only needed for gaming; similarly the new USB 3.0 is only needed if you transfer huge amounts of data.
