help/advice to remove chewing gum from car seat

Hi,

A friend sat in the back seat of my car and unbeknown to him there was chewing gum on the back of his coat and some has tranferred onto the car seat.

Any advice/suggestions to remove it pls ? Someone mentioned freezing it first though not sure how I would do that !!

Any help greatly appreciated :D

Chris
you know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!

Hold an ice cube in a plastic bag against it, till it goes solid then scrape away as best you can with the blunt edge of a knife.

A tar and glue remover will do the trick, try to get the excess out and then apply onto a bit of tissue and leave it to soak for a few minutes. You can get something like Autoglym Tar and Glue remover from Halfords or an auto factors.

When this is done, it is worth following up with a carpet cleaner just to get any excess residue out.

Do the car seat covers come off?
If so, take it off & put it in the freezer over night-it really works a treat, i've done it with my boys clothes many o time & it just scrapes straight off with a knife.
If not go with the above, if its in a convenient position just put some ice cubes in a carrier bag (1 with no holes) & leave it sat on top of seat/chewing gum for an hour or so & it should easily come off.

  • Quick blast with a CO2 extinguisher and the chewing gum'll literally fall off.

Find one that's painted all black, 'cos they're not supposed to be used anymore (should be predominantly red now with a black stripe).

In commercial kitchens there used to be a spray in the first aid kit for putting on burns, it was a freeze spray. It worked a treat on chewing gum as it froze it so hard that it just shattered and could be banged off.

Quick search on the net - may not be the cheapest brand but so you can see what I mean....this one is £2.45 a can.

It is easier to handle than ice cubes/fire extinguishers, but achieves the same result.
