About to take the plunge

So, after a long time of dealing with creditors myself I've just made an appointment with Payplan for one of their advisors to call me back later today. Am chuffed and terrified at the same time! Although in the scheme of things, my unsecured debt of £7k isn't the biggest in the world, it is to me, and I need their help in getting on top of it.

Although savvy with a few financial products, I haven't got a clue what I'm doing with a DMP any newbie things that I should know about?

Wish me luck!

It is terrifying and yet an amazing journey once started. Wish you all the best of luck.

So, the man called. He was polite and very matter of fact about the process, took all the details (it did take a while), and I'll get a call Mon/Tues to confirm some details and formalise things. Can't tell you the relief I feel already, as well as a slight smugness that I'll actually be able to pay off what I owe and end this process with my head held high. For the first time in a while, I don't give a hoot about money!

Congrats on making the call.....I still remember when I had £23k of debts to my name and family members were commenting that I should go bankrupt.....my view is 1) I built up the debt and 2) I work in finance and would lose my job

One thread in particular which really helped me was what small DFW (debt free wannabe) thing have you done today????

    Good luck

Thanks everyone! I must say that you don't realise how stressed you get about money without even realising it. I've not stopped smiling since yesterday! I know that some creditors won't be happy - but i'll deal with them as and when, rather than worrying about it now.

Thanks for the tip Candy - I'll take a look at that thread! :)

Payplan don't charge for their DMP services.

    Hi Sean :)

Starting a DMP can be a real rollercoaster ride but the sense of relief at knowing you are actually doing something about your debts at last is priceless. I can remember that smile you are talking about and it felt like the first time I had smiled and meant it in a very long time.

Well done and good luck :T

Second call with Payplan to formalise everything, now just to make 1st payment, and print off lots of letters with "write to payplan here, with this ref", to start sending back with and letters I get from creditors.

    PHEW!!

Looking forward to making 1st payment to them on Friday to get the wheels in motion.
