Breakdown cover question

Hi,
I have vehicle based breakdown cover rather than driver cover paid in full when policy taken out.
Our car was hit yesterday when parked. Insurance companies are dealing with this, other parties insurance already called to say they accept liability and will be covering full costs.
Our car is not drivable.
Contacted breakdown company first as didnt have insurance details to hand to try and arrange tow home. They said there would be a charge as it's not covered on breakdown and recommended try through insurers which we did.
Had a call later on (once home) from breakdown's accident care team to offer assistance if needed as this is included in our policy. Not too sure what this is so will need to get out paperwork.
Wanted to know if I could do anything about the breakdown cover whilst we wont be using it. E.g. could it be transferred to courtsey car (or would they have their own), or could it be suspended and time not used added onto the end of the policy so we have a full 12 months use?
I was going to call them and ask as worse that can happen is they say no. Just wanted to see if it sounded reasonable or if anyone had any other suggestions so we get full use of policy we paid for.
