HJT log for old laptop needing TLC

Have just got old HP nx9005 up and running again. Have followed the "Speed Up" sticky but still running painfully slow. I can see some things I think need to go in HJT log but wanted to make sure before I deleted something I may need. Would someone be kind enough to take a look for me? Many thanks

possibly ditch avast on an older laptop and replace with MSE (microsoft security)

why IE6 still on there ??

I would suggest it probably just need more ram, early laptops only had 256mb ram , suggest 1gb now (cheap off ebay on an old machine )

IE6 is still there because yesterday was the first time this laptop had been turned on for maybe 2+ years! I never use IE anyway as I have Firefox installed. Can I fix all the yahoo toolbars using HJT and get rid of the msn messenger entries? - don't use it or need it.

I did a Crucial Scan for extra ram and the price was coming up at £70 for 2 x 512 sticks - what would I look for on ebay? (I read somewhere that HP laptops can be picky about ram!)

Also (last question...promise ) - the fan is extremely noisy and i was wondering if i needed to clear out the vent - if its overheating could that cause a slowdown too?

In the firefox address bar, type about:config then right click, new boolean, create a key called config.trim_on_minimize

then set it to true

firefox uses more ram than IE, especially with plugins - try running windows update to get IE8, and use IE instead.

mse uses a lot of ram avast should be more efficient.
