Right to Buy v Right to Acquire

Can anybody explain, clearly and simply, the difference between the right to buy and the right to acquire please. Are the new discounts the same for both (ie, up to £75k or is it still capped at £16k for Right to Acquire?). There is frustratingly little information on the right to acquire on Internet and it is mostly out of date.

    Put the terms into the search engine on www.direct.gov.uk

    Basically R2B is for Council Tenants and R2A is for Housing Association Tenants. Terms vary between the two schemes

    Thanks, I know the difference between the two - and have already been on Direct Gov. Problem is, Direct Gov. is showing the RTA discount as capped at £16k but the information is dated March 2010. The discounts have increased for RTB as of 2nd April 2012 and I need to know if they have similarly increased for RTA.

    As the info on Direct Gov. is generally up to date and showing the correct discounts for RTB, I think you have to assume that the correct discounts are listed for RTA. They will not update from the current 2010 date unless new regulations or amounts come into force.
    The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

    I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    I agree. Also note that Shelter's website discusses R2A and links to the same page with information dated 2010. Also the PM's statement to Parliament about revitalising the R2B implied that there were no plans to change the R2A to give the same R2B benefits.

    There are different types of HA , some have no RTB or RTA.

    Where it does apply, it is based on the Housing Act 1985

    Some very useful pointers provided here, so thank you.

    I have recently been offered to move from a 1 bedroom R2B in Camden Borough, to a 2 bedroom R2A in Newham Borough.

    As I understand the R2B discount could be as much as £50k higher than R2A discount.

    The Newham flat is superb, and has an extra bedroom...but I can help thinking this may be a wrong move on my behalf.

    Can anyone offer any experience of a similar situation?
