    I'd go for a Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra, personally.

    oh no renault bashers.

with a renault or any other car out there have common faults maintenance IS key to prevent such things as blowing up an engine you see, such as putting something called OIL in it every now and then and doing whats called a SERVICE, otherwise the engine will not blow up as you put it.

Trouble is, you wont really know how well its been maintained and will have to take someone elses word for it.

I've heard too many bad reports to recommend an Espace. They get a really bad name in the trade, and i've just had a guy buy an 05 Galaxy from me after his 05 Espace engine blew up.

We've the Chrysler Grand Voyager, paid 5k when it was 7 yars old.
Likes brake parts and doesnt do well in Ncap (for pedestrians and driver, the cherubs are ok with 17/20).
It's the only car I found that provided 7 real seats AND a decent boot space.
  • Dodge Journey is fab.

My wife has one, and the whole family love it.

7 seats, which have leg room on all seats.

Thanks very much I liked Galaxy and Touran so far

I also had a look at Vauxhall Zafira.
It looks ok but the main drawback is the second row seats is one bench which I think could be a bit of drawback.

    Kind regards

I have had a renault espace, regularly serviced and looked after, the engine didnt blow up but it cost me a fortune fixing the electrics, because the electrics failing IS a common fault that no amount of servicing will prevent

I have owned scores of cars and that is the worst one I have ever owned it was on an 06 plate

So in summary I am not a renault basher just speaking from experience

I'd go for an old-shape Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharan over a Touran. I prefer the proper sturdy seats, rather than the flimsy fold-down ones you get in the newer cars.

A Zafira, with its bench seat, is no good if you have 5 children and use car seats.

From memory, Zafiras built from (i think) late '02 onwards had three seatbelts across the middle row.

Yes, they do have seatbelts, but they don't have three separate seats. The seats are split 2/1, so if you want to tip them forwards and have several car seats, it would be a pain. Also, the rear seats are right up against the rear window. We looked at them when we were last buying an MPV, and we were put off. As it's only based on an Astra, it's not really a full-time MPV, I don't think. The seats are flimsy, and there's not much space.
