London tube question

Hello folks!
I'm going to London next Saturday, I go quite often and have an oyster card so I'm fine but I'm taking my nephew with me who is ten years old and I read somewhere that he doesn't need to pay for the tube is this correct? Im puzzled because I'm wondering how he gets through the barriers?
I also read that he can just hop on the bus is this correct?
Many thanks
Steph

Should be fine as long as he is accompanied by an adult. Seek the disabled gated entry and exit at each station (usually where a member of staff can be found), equally the bus driver will nod him through with you.

You just need to go to the pram gate and someone will open it for you after you've swiped in or out.
He can just hop on a bus.
If he looks older than 10 or will be travelling without you / an adult at any point you can get him one of these: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14554.aspx0 -

Is this the same for trains also? I have an oyster card as well, yesterday the guy at Charing Cross station told me I needed to get tickets for the children....admitelly I never told him I had an oyster, and as needed to catch the train urgently I just went and bought the tickets quickly. I have been doing some reading but its abit confusing. So if I have an oyster card I can bring any child under 10 on the bus/train/tube for free.
Specifically I need to get to victoria station wiith 4 kids. from what I have read with my oyster they can all come with me for free? is that correct?0 -

I don't think the free travel applies on the trains. I have this issue every time my niece visits me in London. As far as I'm aware the free travel is only for the bus and tube (I have no idea about the tram, overground and DLR but I'd guess they were free?).
I've previously bought the kids travel for £1 ticket for her for the train. I think most rail operators offer this. However, this also poses a problem as to buy it you need an adult train ticket (it can be a season one that includes the tube but it must be issued by a rail company). Last time I tried to buy it 2 ticket offices denied knowledge of the £1 kids ticket (one was at Victoria, it was mentioned on Southern Trains website!!) and one told me that it did exist but only if the journey was to start or end outside the London zones area and I couldn't have it as I live in zone 4!0 -
Within the London Transport area, on tube and buses, children under 11 travel free but must be accompanied by an adult .
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
